DIY : Gift Box

Hi all !!
Ok so first of all, i'm not an Art-n-craft person anymore, i mean i used to be when i was in school. Ever since i passed out from school, i don't remember i did anything like this. But its my friend's birthday (Prabh) and i don't know from where my mind pushed me to do a DIY gift box (the idea popped up in my mind while i was driving back home). Since it was all instant, i stopped at a stationery shop and bought following stuff :-
  • Acrylic paint (i don't know what i was supposed to buy,but i knew i don't have to purchase water color lol )
  • Fevicol
  • Artist brush-wide
  • 1cm pink ribbon
Apart from the above stuff you'll need :-
  • A newspaper
  • Tissue paper
  • Water
This is how the finished box looks like (Please pardon me, if you don't like it at all)

I had already got the stuff i wanted to gift her, so it already came in a box (online shopping lol ) Before doing this crafty thing, Everything was done and just wrapping was left. But i thought, lets put in some efforts (i love doing a li'l extra for my loved ones, i know efforts count ) Enough talking, lets know how i did it :-

Step 1:- First of all place an old newspaper to avoid mess. Make a solution with fevicol and water, i don't remember the proportion but, it should be li'l watery and not thick.

Because i wasn't aware of the proportion, i played safe, and kept adding the fevicol according to the need. Once i figured out the consistency was right, i stopped adding it.

Step 2:- Cut small pieces of newspaper/tissue paper. Whatever paper you use, make sure they are not thick, because you need thin pieces of paper, that can adhere themselves to the surface better and providing an even surface.

Step 3:- Now apply the glue mixture on the box with the brush, and start sticking the cut pieces of newspaper using the brush only. You don't need to do it using your fingers, because using a brush is mess free and is faster. This one looks messy, but once you start doing so, you get hang of it and you figure out how better you can go. Cover up whole box, and let it dry.

The box took around 1:30-45mins to dry.

Step 4:- Paint the box with 2 coats of your desired paint. Let it dry.

Step 5:- Now wrap ribbon around the box and make a cute li'l bow on top   I'm bad at all this, so please bare with whatever i did (i did almost after lik 7-8yrs )

I don't know if doing all this makes sense in other words, but for affection and concern i like doing small small things which make my loved ones happy. This obviously doesn't looks good, where i could have got it wrapped in beautiful wrapper. But since i've done a paper mache kind of thing, the box is now solidified and lol its going to intensify my friend's anxiousness to open up her present  she's definitely going to have hard time opening it.

Hmmm, while this post is going to get published, i'd probably be celebrating with my frnd !!
